My mom recently had a day off and stopped by a few garage sales. She bought this plastic box of beauties for 25 cents.

I was hoping for a quiet weekend, but it ends up I have a MOPS breakfast and we need to make some fence. I'm determined to get the top of the doll quilt done, too.

I found this itty bitty nest out by the swing set. Maybe a wren's nest? It's just horse hair and strands of bale wrap (the plastic mesh around big round hay bales). It didn't stand a chance against Friday's storm.
Katie's new saddle came in yesterday. She was so excited. We were told it wouldn't be in until the end of August. It was special ordered to fit Mariah, a wide girl who needs a saddle with a wide tree. I tell you, seeing that long-haired little girl walking and riding that horse makes me so happy. Like most little girls, I wanted and wished for a horse, but we lived in town. Kate and Ellie are growing up on a farm and living the life of my childhood dreams. A dream come true.
Did you experience the horrible storms Friday night? Scary stuff. We got 4.5" inches of rain yesterday, much of which found a hole in our standing-seam roof and leaked into the living room :( Today we got to cut a huge hole in the ceiling.

I actually have a plan for the doll quilt!!
I'm going with the strawberry linen on natural Irish linen, the vintage hanky to be embroidered with a vintage BH&G strawberry pattern, vintage eyelet trim, and satin. All vintage except for the Irish linen and satin, which are from a women's jacket. I know satin isn't a natural fabric, but I'll only use a little as trim.
But what about the back? I don't have enough of either linen. And the binding? Blue? Yellow?
I do this to myself all the time. Choose to do a project and then worry, worry, worry about making it perfect. I don't want to embarrass myself, you know. So I signed up for the doll quilt swap. And you know I've never made a doll quilt. For 2 weeks I've been sketching and thinking. Don't laugh, but I've narrowed down the choice of fabrics to these:
Across the top is a vintage hanky I'm using for sure. I'm leaning toward the linen strawberries 2nd from the left. The fairies on the far right are pretty cute, too. Should it be like wedding dress shopping and you know "the one" when you see it. Maybe I should keep looking.
Too much I want to do, but too much I need to do.
When I play with paper and ink, I want to play more.
When I play with fabric, then I want to do more of that, too.
When I'm watching the girls do what they love to do I can't get enough of that either.

Katie had a riding lesson last night. This guy was eating alongside the lane when we were leaving.
Here is an Arabian mare and her 3-week-old mini me. 
The only crafty thing this week is cutting a towel into strips and making sweat bands for Brett. They keep the sweat out of his eyes when he's shoeing and trimming horses.
I did get a scrumptious goody this week from the lovely and talented Michelle. For a few of my things, she made me this gorgeous shawl. It's perfect. Thank you, again, Michelle.
The money was flying out of my pocket the past few days. Now I have buyer's remorse. We've been looking for a new minivan without much luck. So, I didn't worry too much about spending a little extra. Of course we found a new van last night. It's not that I shouldn't have spent the money, but I will have a van payment again and now I'm all anxious about it. I need to chill out!
For months I've been trying to get to the floral wholesaler but it's over an hour away. My mother-in-law was in the mood to go yesterday so off we went. I found twig bird nests, a cute French bucket, floral wire, 12 rolls of floral tape in assorted colors (Including red, white, teal, and yellow), and the cutest bird ornaments. Look at the cat trying to make off with one of the birds!! The things in the bucket are feather picks, which I hope to take apart and turn into bird tails.
This is the biggest purchase of the day.
Today is a perfect summer day. Sunny and warm, but not humid. We have to enjoy the non-humid days while we can here in Iowa.
The girls check the raspberry patch every day. Poor Ellie has been wanting to eat the green ones she's so ready. Today she was rewarded with 3 of these:

Hello, friends. I didn't intend to abandon my blog this last week, but Bible school and work got the best of me. I'm glad to be back to a regular routine this week.
Just a couple of fun things to report on.
I made this over the last week when I actually had a few minutes to myself. Made from a blue wool suit coat and wool yarn. He's going in the shop.
And we've been finding more kittens! The mamas are bringing them up to the house to eat cat food. It seems as though each mama has 1 kitty, so 4 bitty kitties. This one has blue eyes, each a different shade of blue.
